Shooting near Malta State Police barracks, State Route 9 closed

MALTA, NY — On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at approximately 1:43 PM, a shooting incident unfolded at the New York State Police Saratoga Barracks in Malta, resulting in the fatal shooting of a male suspect by responding troopers.

According to authorities, the suspect arrived at the barracks on Route 9 armed with a hunting-style rifle and began firing multiple rounds at the building. Troopers inside the facility quickly responded, exiting the barracks and engaging the suspect. The confrontation resulted in the suspect being fatally shot on the scene.

No injuries to law enforcement personnel or bystanders have been reported at this time.
